BAGUIO CITY – The 9th YMCA Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament for the Corporate level culminated last August 30, 20115, with a day of Championship games for four brackets Y,M,C,A. Engr. Rex Ludaes YMCA President on the awarding ceremonies thanked all participating teams who played in fellowship in the 9th inning of the annual tournament inviting the same and more teams till next conference.
Awarding also ensued with the YMCA PE and Sports Committee Chairman Jerome Gawidan and General Secretary Aida Aquino. Winning teams were; for Bracket “Y” Champion – Ruiz Optical Clinic, 1st Runner Up – Isiah 7:14, 2nd Runner Up – BBP@CBI Marylith Taxi. Bracket “M”, Champion – YMCA Basketball Stars, 1st Runner Up- Baguio Water District – A, 2nd Runner Up – MASTERS.
Bracket “C” Champion – REUNITE, 1st runner up – KNIGHTS, 2nd runner up – Kuya Ponz, whle the Strawberry Pickers emerged Champion for bracket “A” with Team YMCA netting 1st runner up and Baguio Water District – B as 2nd runner ups.
Meanwhile, the best player award was also given to four players who were chosen in accordance with their performance in the final round in accordance to their individual playing statistics. R.O.C’s Rene “Ninja Moves” Laguit was chosen for bracket “Y” while YMCA Basketball Stars’ Paolo Almazora topped bracket “M”, Alfie Asuncion of Reunite was top grosser for bracket “C” and Jovencio Caleno of the Strawberry Pickers was named best player for bracket “A”. The YMCA CUP award, a special award of the league for team performance was also awarded to SWAGG.
Meanwhile, at least 30 teams from the different elementary and high schools in the Baguio City and Benguet will also see action as part of the 9th YMCA Cup dubbed YMCA Inter-School Basketball Invitational tournament that will open on Saturday September 5, 2015 at 8:30 in the morning at the YMCA gym here, also seeing action in the tournament will be the girls division as an added feature of the tournament.
