BAGUIO CITY – The Cordillera office of the Land Transportation Office (LTO-CAR) is eying the operation of some seven private motor vehicle inspections centers (PMVICs) in the region for the implementation of the required automated motor vehicle inspection to ascertain the road-worthiness of private and public motor vehicles for the safety of the riding public.
LTO-CAR regional director Francis Ray Almora disclosed that the 7 PMVICs are on different stages of establishment, ranging from submission of documents, completion of the required documents, issuance of the necessary authority to construct and readiness for inspection by the concerned authorities.
For Baguio City, he disclosed there is a PMVIC that has completed the construction stage which is located in Tuba, Benguet while another PMVIC in Irisan was already issued the appropriate authority to construct.
In La Trinidad, Benguet, Almora stipulated there are 2 applicants for PMVIC which are in the process of completing their documentary requirements, while the lone applicant for the put up of the PMVIC in Tabuk City, Kalinga was already issued the authority to construct the said facility.
For Apayao, the applicant for the construction of the PMVIC is about to complete the documentary requirements while the applicant in Abra has yet to submit the documents needed by the LTO for the processing of the permit and the authority to construct the facility.
Almora claimed the agency is inclined to implement the establishment of PMVICs in strategic areas in the different provinces and cities of the region to allow the full implementation of the required automated motor vehicle inspection to determine the road-worthiness of the various private and public motor vehicles purposely for road safety.
According to him, road safety is one of the major priorities of the agency pursuant to established laws, rules and regulations to ensure safe travels thus it is doing its very best to realize the put up of PMVICs in different areas around the country.
The LTO-CAR official asserted that once the completed PMVIC in Tuba town will be given the green light to operate, it will be already mandatory for private and public motor vehicles to undergo the required automated motor vehicle inspection to determine the road-worthiness of their vehicles.
He revealed that the agency is also awaiting applicants for the construction of PMVICs in Mountain Province and Ifugao to cater to the automated motor vehicle inspection requirements of vehicles in the said areas.
He explained that the operation of the PMVICs will be privately undertaken but upon the supervision and strict monitoring of the LTO-CAR to ensure that the required automated motor vehicles inspection will be implemented pursuant to what has been prescribed by laws, rules and regulations.
