LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Seven people were hurt after a jeepney suffered from mechanical trouble and plunged into a 150-ffet deep ravine at Talinguroy, Lower Wangal here around 10 am Saturday.
Senior Superintendent Florante Camuyot, officer-in-charge of the Benguet Provincial Police Office, identified the wounded jeepney occupants as Linda Guay, 42, a resident of Labey, Bokod; Lilia Opdas, 67, a resident of Poblacion, Atok, Benguet; Agapito Mayos, 66, a resident of Caliking, Atok, Benguet; Markes Tanacaio, 39, a resident of Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet, who was said to be the driver of the ill-fated jeepney; Melia Emaco, 38, a resident of Caliking, Atok, Benguet; Imelda Evasco, 59, a resident of Caliking, Atok, Benguet; Paul Akisio, 67, a resident of Caliking, Atok, Benguet; Rudy Relay, 79, a resident of Caliking, Atok, Benguet and Edward Diwa, a resident of Caliking, Atok, Benguet.
Initial police investigation showed the occupants of the jeepney were supposed to attend the wake of a relative in the area when the driver tried to maneuver the vehicle to negotiate a sharp curve.
A this juncture, the jeep’s engine reportedly went off and suddenly move backwards amidst the driver’s effort to apply the brakes which also went off until the she plunged into a deep ravine in the area.
The passengers were immediately brought to the Benguet General Hospital (BeGH) for medical treatment while the case is still subject to follow-up and investigation.
