LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – 400 women from 16 barangays gathered for the celebration of national women’s day in km. 5 Municipal Gym with a theme “Kapakanan ni Juana, Isama sa Agenda” as a part of the Strawberry festival.
The Strawberry festival includes the celebration of national women’s day which is participated by women from different barangays in the municipality.
Dr. Evelyn Aro-Esquejo , former asst. Director of the Agriculture Training Institute and the guest speaker of the event talks about the international theme “Pledge for parity” where there is equal for women so as with men and inviting women to support the Gender Balanced Leadership where there will be no discrimination for women giving them good position, opportunity for promotion, incentives, right trainings and resources for livelihood activities.
She said the United Nations had a report called Global Gender Gap which contains data about female talent pool having the Philippines ranked 7 among 157 countries.
Mayor Edna Tabanda said that it is a challenge for women to help their respective barangays in its development, “it is about time to change, transform, we are not perfect but we try our best to destroy barriers of gender inequality”.
The event is a whole day celebration filled with different activities for the women of La Trinidad.
