BAGUIO CITY-The YMCA of Baguio, Inc. has set October 21-22, 2017 to be the local selections for the Academic Olympics regional participants for Baguio City and the local YMCA here, to the Regional YMCA Academic Olympics which is slated on November 2017, as the selection of the Regional participants to the upcoming National YMCA Academic Olympics which will be scheduled later this year..
The annual conduct of the Academic Olympics with the theme: “A Call to Servant Leadership” is coordinated with the Department of Education in three levels for Elementary, High School (Junior & Senior High), and College level students who will indulge themselves in various literary musical competitions; Elementary level: Vocal Solo, Draw & Tell, Tula, Quiz Bee Team, Bible Quiz Team, Essay Writing (English) and Modern Dance Competition. High school: Vocal Solo, Vocal Duet, On-The-Spot Drawing, Oratorical Speech, Extemporaneous Speech, Essay Writing (English), Quiz Bee Team (for Junior & Senior High), Bible Quiz Team (Junior & Senior High), Modern Dance, and Folk Dancing. College level: Vocal Solo, Vocal Duet, On-The-Spot Drawing, Oratorical Speech, Extemporaneous Speech, Essay Writing (English), Quiz Bee Team, Bible Quiz Team, and Ball Room Dancing.
The competition is open to all students presently enrolled in the public and private elementary and secondary schools as well as in colleges and universities in the Baguio and Benguet area provided that they secure or renew their YMCA membership as a prerequisite in the eligibility rules of the YMCA Academic Olympics.
The top three winners in each level in all events shall be selected through ranking system where the 1st placers will automatically represent their institution and the YMCA of Baguio City in the Regional Selection and shall advance to the National Competition if they should win in the Regional Competition. Level Champions in the local selection shall also be selected through the highest points garnered by a school.
On the other hand, the 2nd Inter-high school debate competition of the YMCA of Baguio City, Inc. is also scheduled on October 28-29, 2017, at the YMCA Function Hall that will start at 8:00 in the morning. With the theme: “Empowering the youth through expression ”.
The debate competition is open for participation to all high school students with three members per team, and shall follow the Asian Parliamentary Format of Debating. Prizes for the competition will be cash prizes, medals, trophies, and certificate of recognition to the winning teams and certificate of participation for all participants. Deadline of submission of entries and confirmation is on or before October 27, 2017.
