BAGUIO CITY – Two persons were arrested by combined police operatives and intelligence agents after having found in their possession several heads of dead dogs inside their vehicle in a police checkpoint along Naguilian road, here Monday dawn.
BCPO officials identified the arrested individuals as Reneyboy Salbino Ballesil, 34, married, driver by calling and a resident of Purok 2 Sunnyside, Fairview, Baguio City and Richard Cerelo Erenio, 37, married, farmer, and a resident of Purok 1 Irisan, Baguio City.
Initial police investigation showed combined police operatives and intelligence agents were conducting the routine checkpoint along Naguilian road when they chanced upon the vehicle of the suspects.
During the conduct of the plain view search, the police operatives were able to see several green sacks with a foul odor similar to that of a dog emanating from inside the vehicle.
When asked of what was inside the vehicle, the suspects reportedly informed the police that it was an alleged dead dog but they were not able to present the pertinent documents to support the transport of the said animal.
The arrested individuals are now temporarily detained at the BCPO pending the filing of violation of the provisions of Republic Act (RA) 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act against them.
