TABUK CITY, Kalinga – In celebration of the Rabies Awareness Month this March, the City Veterinary Office (CVO)launched the Veterinary Medical Mission to the Barangays through a ceremonial vaccination on March 7 at the City Hall.
To show support for the veterinary medical mission, members of the Anti-rabies Task Force led by Mayor Darwin C. Estraรฑero and representatives from the Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Health, Department of Agriculture and the Philippines National Police were present during the launch.
Acting City Veterinarian Carmen Wanas said that in accordance with the Rabies Awareness Monthโs theme: “๐๐ข๐ฃ๐ช๐ฆ๐ด–๐๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฆ ๐๐ข ๐๐ถ๐ด๐ขโ๐ต ๐๐ด๐ฐ, ๐๐ข๐ญ๐ช๐จ๐ต๐ข๐ด๐ข๐ฏ ๐ฏ๐จ ๐๐ข๐ฎ๐ช๐ญ๐บ๐ข๐ฏ๐จ ๐๐ช๐ญ๐ช๐ฑ๐ช๐ฏ๐ฐโ, the veterinary missionโs primary goal is disease cases eradication through the empowerment of domestic cats, canine, cattle, chicken, caprine owners.
She added that the veterinary medical mission will run through the month of March with services that include animal vaccination, veterinary consultation and treatment, deworming and vitamin administration, artificial insemination for cow and carabao, ASF- negative incidence, animal health monitoring and surveillance, and distribution of veterinary drugs.ย
Aside from the veterinary mission, the CVO will also conduct an Information and Education Campaign, and the re-orientation of barangay officials on anti-rabies laws and regulations.ย
Last year, the CVO logged a steep decline in the number of positive rabies cases with only two cases, down from the 17 positive cases recorded in 2021; a feat that the CVO hopes to maintain this year.
โSapay kuma ta manipud tatta awan tun ti case tayun, magsama-sama tayo sa pagsugpo ng rabies case sa ating city,โ Wanas said.
Mayor Darwin C. Estraรฑero urged pet owners to avail themselves of the services of the City Veterinary Office and observe responsible pet ownership not only during the Rabies Awareness Month but throughout the year to finally eradicate rabies in the city.
