LA TRINIDAD, Benguet –To promote and revive the Regreening Program project of the school, the Eastern La Trinidad National High School (ELTNHS), Beckel with their Senior High School students, YES-O, Science and Performing Arts Club officers conducted a Tree Planting and Ring weeding activity last September 22 along Busi-Lamut-Marlboro Road and at the Barangay Beckel Communal Forest. The activity aims to advocate and inculcate the importance of environmental protection and conservation of the ecosystem to the students and the whole community and support the Anti-Dengue Campaign of the government.
This activity is one of the highlights of this years’ Science and Math Month celebration with the theme “ Earth Beat: Excavating the Abyss, Pulsing the Current, Steering the Youth Towards Sustainable Development”. Aside from the students, the tree planting activity was participated by the Local Government Unit-Barangay Beckel headed by Punong Barangay Allan Y. Malliones and the Barangay Tanods. The Technical Support Platoon of the Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC) Benguet Police provincial Office (BBPO)- Police Regional Office Cordillera headed by Police Inspector James B. Ruadap also participated by securing the safety of the students for the whole duration of the said activity. The tree planting activity would not be a reality without the seedlings that was donated by HEDCOR Inc. On September 21, Five Hundred (500) seedlings of pine tree and caliandra was turned over by HEDCOR Inc. as represented by their Environmentalist Mr. Ronald Batanay. During the turn over ceremony, Mr. Batanay demonstrated the proper way of planting the seedlings.
On the other hand, Arturo Capas Jr., a Grade 11 student, oriented and demonstrated to the students the proper way of handling and planting the seedlings before they were disperse for the tree planting activity. The school has decided to make the Tree planting and ring weeding activity yearly to promote a Clean and Green Community and as one of the major component of the Regreening Program project of the school.
