BAGUIO CITY – The local legislative body was able to collectively approve some forty nine ordinances and one hundred forty eight resolutions during the fourteen sessions that were conducted over the past five months.
Last November 19, 2019, the local legislative body was the sponsoring agency during the conduct of the regular Monday flag raising ceremony of the local government before becoming the sponsor of last Monday’s flag raising rites.
Councilor Leandro B. Yangot, Jr. was the one tasked by the members of the local legislative body present to report on the accomplishments of the local legislative body over the past five months considering the absence of Vice Mayor Edison R. Bilog who was supposed to report on the manner.
Further, the local legislative body was able to conduct 14 public consultations on various proposed ordinances that were filed by the local legislators on issues and concerns that need to be acted upon by the legislative body.
Some of the important ordinances that were enacted by the members of the local legislative body during the 5-month period include the speed limit along different roads in the city, the increased benefits for individuals in crisis situation, the 2019 annual budget among others.
On the other hand, the resolutions that have important bearing to the public include the request to the Cordillera office of the Department of labor and Employment (DOLE) to put up a complaint desk in city hall to cater to the growing complaints of employees on their workplaces among others.
The alderman assured that the members of the local legislative body will remain steadfast in acting on priority legislations that will help in speeding up the implementation of development projects and contribute in efforts to improve the delivery of basic services to the people of the city even if it is an election year considering that they owe to the people their seats in the local council.
According to him, there are still 42 ordinances and 21 resolutions that are pending scrutiny by the different committees of the local legislative body and that the same will be acted upon by the members in the upcoming sessions before the current batch of councillors will end their term on June 30, 2019.
The local legislative body conducts its regular session every Monday and spends the rest of the week to hold public hearings and other important meetings on pending proposed ordinances and resolutions that need immediate action to support the overall development programs and projects geared addressing certain problems of the city.
The City Council has been adjudged as one of the best local legislative bodies in the country because of its outstanding performance in the crafting of local laws beneficial in uplifting the greater interest of the people of the city and contributing in the efforts of the national government to advance the primary programs on transparency, accountability and good governance.
