Makayan, Benguet – The Diploma in Physical Education students (DPE) of Benguet State University-Institute of Human Kinetics (BSU-IHK) conducted a two-day Sports Clinic at Balili National High School (BNHS), Balili, here, on May 3-4, 2019 to train students, teachers and coaches the new skills and techniques in their different sport events.
The sport clinic, participated by 40 students with Out of School Youths (OSY) and coaches from barangay Balili, focused on basketball, volleyball, futsal, chess, muay thai and taekwondo. First Aid for common sport emergencies were also discussed at the start of the training.
According to Sharmine Nguaban, a teacher and coach at BNHS, the activity enhanced the skills of the students. She went on to suggest that the event should be extended in order for the participants to fully internalize the new skills that were taught.
In addition, Twinkle Bulsao, one of the participants, bargained for another sports clinic to be conducted in their school in order to encourage more students to be more active in sports.
The sports clinic was made possible thru the coordination of the host school’s faculty and staff headed by Gloria B. Cadap, Principal I, and BSU-IHK Diploma in Physical Education students.
Meanwhile, the DPE is a program offered by Benguet State University-main campus under the Institute of Human Kinetics. The program is offered to any Bachelor Degree graduates who intend to take physical education as another field of specialization. The DPE program can be completed in two (2) years. Subjects are offered on Saturdays during regular semesters and daily during midyear term.
